The Aspens in Whistler BC

The Aspens in Whistler BC

The Aspens in Whistler British Columbia - 4800 Spearhead Drive, Whistler, B.C.

The Aspens is situated on the Benchlands of Blackcomb Mountain, the next building up the mountain from the Fairmont Chateau Whistler BC.

Construction on The Aspens in Whistler BC began in the early 1990's and proceeded in three stages. The end result is a building containing 233 strata owned units, located in a unique ski in ski out area on the slope of Blackcomb Mountain seconds from the bottom of the lifts. This is one of the few ski in ski out buildings in the Whistler BC area.

When you turn off Blackcomb Way onto Spearhead Drive the road rises in a gentle slope until you see on the right hand side of the road, the distinctive magenta sign that confirms that you have reached The Aspens in Whistler BC. A view of the entry court to The Aspens, with the lobby on the far side of the loop and the underground parking ramp to the right, is breathtaking at Christmas time when the trees in the center planting bed are decorated with lights. If your first view of The Aspens is during the festive season it is a magical fairyland.

During the summer the green grass, the trees and the flowers offer immediate serenity, and refreshment for the eye and the mind, as you step out of your vehicle. The Aspens was built to provide year round sanctuary for visitors, not just for winter time skiing and snowboarding. If you are visiting Whistler BC for the first time, or this is one of many repeat visits, the fresh clean air, the mountain stillness and the beauty of both Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains is there for your relaxation and enjoyment.

The lobby inside the front doors is decorated with original art, a huge stone fireplace, comfortable sofas and chairs. Carpeting and slate tiles carry out the theme of an alpine retreat. The front desk staff is friendly and helpful; if you have a question be sure to ask. The maintenance staff for the building is clearly recognizable by the logo on their black shirts. Whistler Property Maintenance staff has been known to return to The Aspens long after their day is over to attend to a problem. Your comfort and pleasure is the prime concern of all those who work in The Aspens.

Glass doors from the lobby of The Aspens offer the visitor a view of the inner courtyard and the slope of Blackcomb Mountain. The spacious meeting room is available for rent by both owners and their guests. An anniversary, a family reunion, a special birthday party, or a wedding reception held in Whistler on the slope of Blackcomb Mountain will make your event memorable and special for everyone who attends.

The Aspens was built in a u-shape around an inner courtyard with a small pool and two hot tubs. This was sufficient for the times, and nobody complained about the size of the tubs in winter, or the size of the pool in summer. But, by the year 2002 it became apparent that what was acceptable in 1994, was no longer adequate if The Aspens was to maintain its boast of first class accommodation. In the winter, after a day of skiing, both hot tubs were filled to capacity, and why not? The building boasted of its ski in ski out location, where you could change your ski clothes for your swim-suit and soak your sore muscles before dinner.

In 2004 The Aspens Strata Council, with the approval of the majority of the owners of the 233 units in building, embarked on the most ambitious undertaking of its then current projects. Needless to say that the projected start to finish time of eight weeks was not achieved, but when the new pool and hot tubs were finally completed in time for the winter ski season of 2004 the few extra weeks until completion time was worth the wait, and there was a huge sigh of relief when the new pools and hot tubs opened.

Now The Aspens is truly able boast that that their guests may ski in and ski out on the slope of Blackcomb Mountain, and end the afternoon with a soak in one of the three hot tubs.

That's right The Aspens now has three hot tubs. One of them has an island in the center and seats at least twenty people. Children love to run from this hot tub to the pool to cool off. The other two hot tubs are smaller and are perfect for those who want a quiet soak with a few friends.

Hang your towels in the pool shelter built of logs to resemble a miniature alpine chalet.

In the summer when the temperature climbs into the 70s and 80s Fahrenheit the large pool deck provides space to relax and read a book while you soak up a few rays. Do remember to bring a hat and your sunscreen, because it gets very hot It isn't necessary to take the children any farther than the pool in the inner courtyard, and if you bring a friend or two they will entertain themselves. The Aspens is ideal for a family vacation.

Each condominium unit in The Aspens is individually owned. Some face the inner courtyard with a view of the pool, hot tubs, and the mountain slope covered with evergreen trees. Others face the forest side of the building and offer a view of indigenous trees and plants where the wild lupins grow lush and tall in the moist shade. If you sit quietly on the deck drinking your coffee early in the morning you may see a stripped chipmunk venture out of the forest and onto the deck in a curious foray into man's world.

There is a stone fireplace in every unit, not needed during the summer, but essential during the winter ski season for ambiance as you relax in front of the television or listen to music after a long day skiing or snowboarding on Whistler, or Blackcomb Mountain. Winter or summer the barbecue on the deck is there for your dining enjoyment on the nights you decide to prepare dinner instead of dining in one of the many fine restaurants in Whistler Village and the surrounding area.

Wireless internet is available in the building for those who must stay connected to the outside world while on vacation. But, if you only want to check your email there is an Internet Room in the Phase 3 section of the building, just across the breezeway from the lobby.

There is a bike storage room with bike racks in the underground parkade. Laundry facilities are available on the P2 level.
